BSD SpecLink consists of 3 primary catalogs:
- Performance Specifications (PerSpective),
- Short Form Specifications (i.e. outline specs), and
- Construction Specifications (SpecLink).
The Construction Specifications are further divided into sub-catalogs. When you buy a subscription to BSD SpecLink you purchase access only to those catalog(s) that meet your needs.
A brief summary of the catalogs appears below. With the SpecLink catalog, you can further configure your annual subscriptions to include the specification sections relating only to a particular design discipline--or you may choose a comprehensive library that contains all of the sections in the master database. Click on the links below to see a more detailed description of each catalog. Also see the Catalog Listings for a list of the individual sections included in each catalog.
Performance Specifications: PerSpective
is the name for the catalog containing design criteria
specifications that allow you to define building element requirements
early in the project using performance-based and prescriptive
statements as applicable to the subject matter. PerSpective
is organized according to Uniformat and is used by design professionals to
document design criteria, by owners to prepare requests for
proposal for design-build projects, and by design-builders to
prepare proposals. Selections of materials made via PerSpective
are linked to the Short Form catalog.
Short Form Specifications: This catalog defines building product requirements (materials and equipment) using brief descriptive statements suitable for schematic phase or other early documentation or for construction of small, low risk projects. The Short Form specs are organized according to CSI's Masterformat™ 1995 edition and cover architectural, structural, civil, landscape, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, and electrical disciplines. Selections made in the Short Form specs are linked to the SpecLink construction specifications.
Construction Specifications: As the
original BSD specification catalog, the Construction Specifications catalog
also bears the name SpecLink. This catalog is used to produce
detailed CSI 3-PART specifications for construction documents
for design-bid-build and design-build projects. It
also creates automatic administrative reports, such as
submittal requirements, useful during construction
administration. The construction specifications are organized
according to both the 2004 and 1995 editions of CSI's Masterformat
and CSI's SectionFormat™. CSI's
PageFormat™ is one of the four built-in but
customizable page formats available.
