FAQs: Setup & Miscellany

What kind of computer does the software need?

The software runs on Windows-based computers only. The Hardware Requirements Page describes the current minimum and recommended hardware requirements.

Is it multi-user?

Yes. On networks, the software will restrict usage to the number of users licensed into accordance with the subscription agreement. Server installations will allow simultaneous use up to the number of users limit -- in addition, any number of workstations may be set up to run the software. Refer to the current User Manual installation chapter here for more information.

More than one user may work in a project at the same time--but individual sections may be edited by only one user at a time.

I haven't used SpecLink-E for several months. Do I need to do anything special with updates before beginning a new project?

No, you don't need to do anything special. However, if you would like to start a new project with the latest data, you can update immediately. Simply go to the Tools tab, Update to Master Group, and select Updates Administration. Then click on the Update Now button. All updates that have occurred since you lat update will be installed automatically.

What happens if I decide not to renew my subscription? Can I still use my specifications?

After your subscription has expired, you can print your existing specs or export them to Word or to RTF. You can't start new projects, open any section, add new sections, or change the contents of any section, except by exporting to word processing.

How long have these software products been available?

It was conceived and developed by the Construction Specifications Institute and the Design-Build Institute of America and is now owned by BSD and incorporated into SpecLink-E in the form of the Design Criteria sections. BSD SpecLink-E was first released on December 1, 2009.

Building Systems Design was founded in 1983 and has been developing, maintaining, supporting, and selling software products commercially since then.
