In an "Enhanced Listing," the “enhancement” is the infomercial describing the named manufacturer and his products, with a picture or other graphic, and a live hyperlink to the manufacturer's web site for additional information.

The purpose of the Enhanced Listing is to give specifiers enough information to induce them to include that manufacturer's name in the specification--which is accomplished by simply clicking in the box to the left of the name to select it. If your company's web site includes special services for specifiers that will aid in product selection or specification, your graphic note can include hyperlinks directly to those pages.

A sampling of companies who have placed Enhanced Listings in SpecLink® appears below, illustrating the many ways BSD can assist your efforts to "get specified" by:

CertainTeed's ToughGard® MAX is a new innovation that blends the thermal performance of rotary duct liners with the durability and easy handling of textile duct liner. Its air stream surface is coated with CertainTeed's ToughGard enhanced surface to prevent moisture absorption, contains an anti-microbial agent, and is tough enough to resist tearing, puncturing, and surface wear due to duct cleaning equipment. Dietrich Metal Framing,

Their enhanced listings in three sections are tailored to the type of products specified in the particular section, to show specifiers the full range of their products. Compotite was the first to produce a waterproofing alternative to lead pans for tile shower installations. Their enhanced listings highlight the specific products they recommend for waterproofing under thin-set tile and stone and for thick-set shower pans. The specifier is able to select and specify the appropriate Compotite product, by brand name, without having to exit the program to go look it up. SECTION 09 3000 - TILING includes two listings, with typical details, for waterproofing under thin-set and thick-set tile and shower pan liners. CavClear manufactures a proprietary design of Cavity Mortar Control for masonry cavity walls. Because their product is proprietary they have to first convince specifiers that the product is needed, before they can begin to persuade them to specify CavClear's product. In BSD SpecLink's SECTION 04 2000 - UNIT MASONRY ASSEMBLIES, CavClear's Enhanced Listing presents an isometric diagram of a cavity wall showing where the mortar control products are used plus a detailed explanation of the issues and advantages of CavClear's products. This information, though extensive, is not bothersome to the specifier, because it is presented only when he/she clicks on CavClear's name listing in the list of manufacturers for that product category. The "graphic note" which makes up the enhanced listing does not have to be deleted in order to prevent printing it in the final spec and includes full contact information plus a live hyperlink to CavClear's home page at www.cavclear.com.

Pilkington Corporation,

Pilkington, one of the world's largest manufacturers of glass and glazing products, is a leader in the global Flat Glass industry. Their enhanced listing in SpecLink Section 08 8000 - GLAZING highlights their line of low-E glasses and provides a link to their website for detailed product information. Full contact information is shown at the bottom of each note making up the enhanced listing.

Tilt-Up Concrete Association,

Founded in 1986, The Tilt-Up Concrete Association was created by a dedicated group of construction professionals interested in improving the quality and acceptance of tilt-up construction. Their mission is to expand and improve the use of tilt-up as the preferred construction method by providing education and resources that enhance quality and performance. In pursuit of that mission, TCA has reviewed and endorsed BSD SpecLink SECTION 03 4713 - TILT-UP PRECAST CONCRETE. The note to specifier at the title of the section is shown at right. This note is the first note a specifier sees after opening the section. All title notes in SpecLink describe what products may be specified using the section, discuss any significant specifying issues that may be applicable, and provide links to other resources on the subject. The Steel Network,

The Steel Network makes specialized clips to allow vertical and horizontal movement for metal stud framing.  Their graphic notes in 3 non-proprietary SpecLink sections link to detailed drawings that explain what the clips are for better than words can.  The Steel Network's comments on the sections (part of what a manufacturer is entitled to) resulted in improvements in how this type of construction is specified.  Their graphic note in Section 05 4000 - COLD-FORMED METAL FRAMING is shown at the right.
