Online Submittal Management Service & Electronic Copies of Submittals

BSD recently signed a strategic partnership agreement with Submittal Exchange, a collaborative online system for exchanging, reviewing, and archiving construction submittals. You can learn more about this partnership by reading our recently published press release. We’ll be working closely with SE over the next few months in order to deliver greater value in the services we offer our respective customers.

We are convinced that the services offered by Submittal Exchange will enable BSD’s customers to manage construction submittals more efficiently, at lower cost, and with a minimum of paper. BSD SpecLink already includes a number of administrative reports that assist our customers in managing submittals during the construction administration phase of any project. Now, through our alliance with Submittal Exchange, we hope to compound that value by offering more comprehensive reporting that will dovetail closely with SE’s services.

To implement Submittal Exchange’s service as a requirement of the contract documents, we recommend using SpecLink’s Section 013000 Administrative Requirements.  At the beginning of PART 3 is an article titled ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT SUBMITTAL SERVICE. This explains to the Contractor that use of the service is mandatory, gives you the option of having the Owner or Contractor pay for the service, and specifies that paper submittals will not be reviewed.  In addition, under NUMBER OF COPIES OF SUBMITTALS, a provision for PDF copies of submittals has been added, for use with or without the submittal service.
