SpecLink: Revisions This Quarter

Section 09 2116 (09260) - Gypsum Board Assemblies:

The board materials article of this section has been almost entirely replaced with new text covering both traditional and modern products in a more organized fashion. New options include all types of mold resistant boards, new materials such as glass-mat-faced wallboard and unfaced wallboard, backing board for wet areas complying with ICC IBC 2006, and impact-rated board. There are only eight manufacturers of gypsum board in the U.S., so it was possible to do a comprehensive review of all their products. As an experiment, we have included all their brand name products in the appropriate categories—for both users’ information and as a method of tracking what products were actually reviewed. Users need not include the brand name lists if not desired. More information about some of the more modern products is also contained in our article for Archi-Tech magazine, “Gypsum Board for the 21st Century,” which, together with its AIA CEU test, is posted at www.architechmag.com/ceus/.

LEED for SCHOOLS ADDED to SpecLink

Two sections in Division 1 that relate to LEED Certification have been updated to include the “LEED for Schools” rating system, First Edition, Updated November 2007. Section 013514 - LEED Credit Summary and Section 013515 - LEED Certification Procedures previously included LEED-EB (Existing Buildings, version 2.0), LEED-NC (New Construction, version 2.2), LEED-CS (Core & Shell, version 2.0), and LEED-CI (Commercial Interiors, version 2.0). As of the Summer 2008 update, these sections will also offer LEED for Schools. For more information about how these sections can help specifiers address the requirements of LEED projects, go to BSD’s web site at www.bsdsoftlink.com/speclink/sl_LEED.htm or our Specifiers’ Library, at www.bsdsoftlink.com/speclink/sl_subscribers.htm.
