Continuing Education with BSD

Do you need additional LUs to complete your continuing education requirements for 2007? Even if you don’t need credits for last year, it isn’t too early to begin accumulating LUs for 2008, and BSD can help! AIA rules allow credit for up to 8 of your required 18 LUs from educational articles sponsored by a CES provider. BSD has sponsored five articles in recent months that have appeared in Archi-Tech magazine, and these are all still available on-line. Each article is worth 1.0 LU and offers HSW credit.

The available articles written by BSD staff are as follows:

  • Standard Construction Contracts: New Forms from Three Sources
This article by Robert Paul Dean and Susan McClendon reviews the recent revisions and reissuing of major groups of standard contract forms by three industry organizations: AIA, EJCDC, and AGC through ConsensusDOCS.
  • Lighting Green Buildings
This article by Robert Paul Dean and Susan McClendon examines a number of opportunities for achieving more environmentally friendly buildings through innovative lighting design.
  • Reducing Consumption
This article by Susan McClendon explores a number of strategies for improving life cycle sustainability through improved building technology.
  • What is MasterFormat™ 2004 and Why Should I Care?
This article by Robert Paul Dean explains the basic rationale behind the new CSI/CSC taxonomy for construction, discusses what has changed, and makes suggestions for converting from the old 16-division format.
  • Specifying and Cost Estimating with BIM
This article by Robert Paul Dean and Susan McClendon discusses the differences between BIM and 3-D CAD modeling, illustrates two different database approaches to BIM, and advocates a BIM scheme that maintains interoperability between separate applications.

All of these articles are available at www.architechmag.com/ceus/Default.aspx on the Archi-Tech website. The articles are free, but there is a $10 administrative fee for processing the short examination that accompanies each article. The magazine will automatically report one HSW learning unit for each article if you receive a passing grade on the exam. It’s a quick and easy way to obtain learning units while picking up some useful information. We urge you to give it a try.
