Title: UniFormat®, A Uniform Classification of Construction Systems and Assemblies
- Latest Edition: 2010
- Publisher: Construction Specifications Institute, www.csinet.org
- Where to Buy: On-line
This publication contains an organizational scheme for building elements -- the parts of the building -- without regard to what products they are made out of. Useful for organizing early design narratives and similar descriptions of the building. It is also commonly used to organize cost estimates and might be referred to as the "flip side" of MasterFormat.
Another "UniFormat" is ASTM E 1557, Standard Classification of Building Elements and Related Sitework - UniFormat II, 2005 edition, from ASTM International, www.astm.org. Although ASTM's UniFormat started out almost identical to CSI's, the documents have diverged due to development by different groups of people.
The Design Criteria portion of SpecLink-E is organized generally according to UniFormat, although at a very high level, without the detail either UniFormat document contains.
