Overview of Formats

In the context of construction specifications, formats include standard arrangements of:

  • Standard arrangement of the content in the final, assembled document.
  • Standard arrangement of the content within individual sections (equivalent to chapters in a book).
  • Standard arrangement of information on the printed page.

Standard formats aid in readability and ease of comprehension.

In the U.S., the standard formats with the widest acceptance are those of the Construction Specifications Institute, Inc.
