Updates

Updates are automatically installed and do not affect subscribers’ data.

Every 90 days, BSD updates the SpecLink-E master database, making modifications (additions, deletions, and/or edits) to the master database. The charts and slides below provide details about how quarterly updates work.

Changes to the master database are summarized each quarter and can include changes to:

  • Section text (over 700 sections are in the database).
  • Automated links (SpecLink-E utilizes over 100,000 links).
  • Master notes (users have access to over 30,000 notes about specifying issues, with hyperlinks to over 900 manufacturers' web sites).
  • Reference standards (over 2,000 unique reference standards, cited in over 8,000 locations in the master text).
  • Model project overlays (4 model projects).

<<< When an old project is opened after a quarterly update has been installed, this dialog box appears:

  • Yes: The project is updated automatically (but user edits and additions are not affected).
  • No: The project is not updated, but sections and paragraphs that would be changed are marked for later consideration

<<< If the No option is chosen, no changes are made to the project, but titles of sections affected by updates in the new master are displayed in magenta.

<<< Within an affected section, paragraphs that would be changed by the updated are marked in rust.

<<< For each changed paragraph, the user can compare existing text to the updated paragraph—then update or ignore the paragraph.

<<< You can even decide to update the reference standards—and ONLY the reference standards.

<<< You can also decide to update all the manufacturer listings—and ONLY the manufacturer listings.

<<< If you do not update a project or choose to update it partially, each subsequent time you open the project you will receive a reminder message.
